I recently wrote and edited a a five-part blog series for CoLab Radio on Sri Lanka’s first highway, the Colombo-Matara Expressway. For this project, I collaborated with the Centre for Poverty Analysis in Colombo, whose researchers had conducted a long-term analysis of the displacement caused by the construction of the Expressway. The series was born out of my visceral apprehension about much of the post-war urban development in Colombo, and challenged me to objectively present a project I was deeply mistrustful of to an audience unfamiliar with Sri Lanka.
The blog series was featured on the Smithsonian Magazine, Sri Lanka’s Daily Financial Times, CEPA’s website, and the Aquinas University College website.
